Kaymakli underground city
There are 36 underground cities in Cappadocia. In times of danger, they were used as graves, food storage, or shelter. Cities were ingeniously equipped with ventilation ducts. Kaymaklı is the most comprehensive underground city. The labyrinth of tunnels and rooms is no less than eight floors underground and is still used by local residents as storage space. As a tourist, you can visit the first four floors, but you should love the small spaces. This underground city is not for people with claustrophobia.

Valley of the Monks
To get a glimpse of the world-famous fairy chimneys, you’ll need to be in Monk Valley. The first inhabitants of Cappadocia thought that underground fairies had chimneys. The valley owes its name to Saint Simeon, who lives in the valley. One of the chimneys now has a chapel dedicated to this man. You can visit the chimney and go to the top.
Uçhisar Castle
It was built around a huge carved castle in the village of Uçhisar, not far from Göreme. It is a real landmark because the rock filled with cave houses reaches its summit tens of meters above the village and can be seen from afar. The complex is a maze of tunnels and has been used by the villagers as a shelter for centuries when hostile armies attacked the surrounding area. The climb to the summit takes you to the magnificent view of the surrounding rocky valleys and you witness the most beautiful sunset in the evening.
